Galle

History endures in this metropolis of the South, where natural and cultural variety flourishes. Over the ages, Galle has endured a great deal, from conflict with colonial powers to a catastrophic tsunami. Nevertheless, the city appears to be unfazed by an unbreakable spirit. Galle’s position and natural harbor made it a significant trading hub in the past.

A Portuguese armada accidentally arrived in 1505, altering the history of the island.
The Dutch overthrew them in 1640, and the British defeated them in 1796. The city was formed by their legacies, which are still evident today.
